Here's the Lewis Gun .blend that I did for the Nieuport 11 tutorial.  It's not elegant and lacks lots of details, but should serve for our purposes and can be further detailed if you wish.

In searching through the photos that I had available, I found many variations in the Lewis, depending on manufacturer, air or ground use, year made, etc.  You should check photos applicable to the plane that you're doing.  The difference are pretty significant in some cases, including which side of the receiver the charging handle and ejection port appear on.  This one is based on drawings of a Lewis manufactured by Savage Arms in Utica, NY and drawings by Paul Matt.

I was not able to get a decent export to .3ds from Blender, but if I can find a way to convert it in another program, I'll have a .3ds version for Max also.

  Hope this is of use.

Kevin,

Unfortunately, I haven't had any luck in converting this one to a .3ds.  I think I made  the mesh too complex for the exporter to handle, so I may have to tweak the whole thing a bit.  I wish there were a better export function in Blender , but the Python scripts are written by people for no monetary reward, so you can't be too upset if they're not perfect.  You just have to learn Python and write a better one .  Using some of these 3D programs makes me feel like a chimp who's just found himself at the wheel of a brand new Ferrari Enzo .

The limitation is probably due to the 3ds format which only supports 64,000 faces. Not sure if blender supports *.obj but that is often a good format to use for import to other 3D software.

For some reason when I've tried .obj, everything comes up all rearranged in the wrong position, .dxf same thing.  I'm gonna keep experimenting.
