I  was  with  Clave  on  this,  but  now  I'm   with  Gray   -  a  female  driver   would  be  a  novel   twist  to the  stereotype and  create  a  more  interesting painting  I believe.
(Must  be  my  femine  side  trying  to get in  touch!)

Thanks for the input guys.  You may recall that I said: "I have a theory..", and the theory is that the rebel in me would fight against a stereotypical sixties macho scene and depict a female driver with an empty passenger seat, (though a dog is an option).  I think that the person standing would best be a member of the opposite sex as even I have my rebelious limitations, though frankly there does not need to be sexual inuendo in the scene at all.  Perhaps it is the fact that in its day this 3.0 ltr machine was quite a muscle car that makes me think that there might be.  The timing of the day is influenced by the drinking laws which virtually demanded a lunchtime or evening scene but not a.m. or mid afternoon.  A person whose motoring art I admire greatly is Alan Fearnley (2 very good art books) and he advocates persons wearing headress/hats to make the painting easier.  I hope to have the female styled appropriate to era and not too old.  The gentleman is likely to be a country gentleman as the area shown is fishing-shooting country.  I am busy drawing my Gazelles (part II) at present so progress will be a little slow.  I will still probably include a motorcycle and sidecar in the background perhaps highlighting the 'class system' that was evident at that time.  As a youngster myself I found that if you were from a council estate (rented accomodation) versus a private estate (mortgaged or owned outright) mattered in people perception.  I dont know if I grew out of that or indeed if it still exists, but I have not seen it in years.  After warning my family of the sky being very wet with the excess paint required to make the canvas opaque; guess who brushed against it today wearing a new shirt!  Thankfully it went straight in the wash and all is well.  Apologies for being so verbose but some may find my background logic of interest.

It's looking great so far, Chas.  I would have put a man behind the wheel since, as I remember, the Big Healey had very heavy steering and stiff suspension and took some muscling around to go fast.  I like the idea of a classic bike being included in the comp.

Its sounds more like a food recipe than an oil painting.

Due to the bad qualities of the canvas, liberaly apply paint across the canvas.  Wait a few days for the paint to become tacky to the touch.  Then reapply with detail working the paint until you feel you are getting somewhere.

Within the building you can see the base layer on the roof and left of the building, and where I am starting to work the canvas around the front door and lower right.  Frankly the canvas is a cause of despair and I needed a small detailed area to ensure that an element of it maintained motivation.  That alone is why I started at the entrance door.  All building take some time to build up in layers, and I will not allow this canvas to win the war.  This painting will stand as inspiration to all my fellow artists that the most difficult of works can be mastered through perciverance.

Photograph taken indoors with a flash.

You may be having trouble with the canvas Chas, but this one really stands out to me.
