The tugboat Weser is powered by a Voith Schneider Propeller (VSP) http://www.voithturbo.com/vt_en_pua_marine_vspropeller.htm making it a true water tractor. Equipped with such a drive, Weser is highly maneuverable and well suited for ship handling. The tug is equipped with 2 diesel engines which produce a combined rating of about 6,700 HP and it is able to exert 71 tons of bollard pull. Weser is an ocean going vessel and, in addition to harbor work, she is well equipped for deep sea towage, offshore services and salvage operations. Owned and operated by Unterweser Reederei GmbH (URAG) of Bremen, the tug operates primarily out of the port of Bremerhaven.

And here is the version which shows what is going on beneath the waterline.

Good cold  , salty  North  Sea  look  to  this  one  Mark  . The  tug  looks natural on the  slope of  the  wave  and  the tone / lighting fit  into the  atmosphere  perfectly . Brrrr!

Thanks Neil. I was going for a frigid North Sea feel.

Looking first class, Mark. You're really nailing those ocean scenes.

There must be a theory that a 'conventional' artist can do anything that a digital artist can do.  A theory that gets blown out of the water when you see awesome works like this.  Outstanding

Nice Work Mark!

It's amazing the changes in tug boats in the past decades.
I hadn't paid much attention to them since I got out of the Navy
and my minds eye was still in the Revell "Long Beach" era on tug boats.
Then I ran across a magazine that was all about the modern tugboats
about 10 years ago .That was a real eye opener, real no nonsense
brute machines, very practical but beautiful in their own way.

Best,
Joe

Thank you very much Charles and Joe for the great compliments. I did a lot of seascapes when I first learned to paint with oils. I am happy to now be able to bring that experience into my digital work.

Joe, I remember building that Revell kit back in the 70s! Those older boats are still around and useful. You're right about the modern tug. I think that's why they are so fascinating to me. Even though they are brute machines folks do have some fun with them. Every year they have tugboat races and pushing contests across North America and there is a tug ballet held in Hamburg.

That sea is awesome and scary.  Makes me want to break out an immersion suit.

I remember that Revell kit from the 50s.  Several were eventually sacrificed to the Firecracker Gods in a nearby creek .
