Finally  took  the plunge  and  opened  up  the  boxes    for  the  1/48  Airfix  Lightning F1/ 3 and  F2A /6  that  have  sat in  the   cupboard  for  over  a  decade.  I've  never  been  a  dedicated  modellor  -  set  out  with   good  intentions   but  usually  settle  for   " something  near  the  mark".

Glad  I  took the   time  to  mask  the  first  cockpit  because  I  managed  to get  black  paint   well  over  the  masking!
In  the  wings  I also  have   a 1/48th Academy Hunter  FGA9 and Airfix Buccaneer S2 as well  as  a 1/32 Revell  Tornado  GR1  and a Revell  Special  limited  edition  1/32  Beaufighter.
Think  I'll   work   my  way   up  to  the  Beau.  -  shame  to  spoil  a  good  model.
Aim   with  the  others  is   just  to  stick  some  airframes  together  as  photo   refs   for artwork   but it  seems  a  shame  not  to    treat  them   with  a  bit  of  respect

The Airfix Lightning is a beautiful kit.  Some one gave me one years ago and I never got around to building it.  I hope you go all out on that one.

I've  got  two  Lightning  kits  to  build  Don ,  the  F1/3  and  an  F2A/6 -  not  too  happy   with  my  efforts  at  the  canopy frames   but  not   a total   disaster.
I  think  it  may  just  be  a  case  of   getting to the  point  where  I  can  shut the  fuselages  and  stick  on  the   wings/fins -  as  long  as  everything  is  at  the  right  angle  I  can  get  on   with photographing  and  turning   them  into  paintings .  Same  with  the  Hunter   and  Bucc .
As  long  as  the  cockpits  aren't  too  bad  I  can  always  break  out  the  enamels  and  paint  them  up  later .
Sacriledge  I know   but  I  need  to  get  some  proper  paintings  done!

Neil,
You can always tape them together with masking tape that you can remove later and then use them for posing without lessening their value.  I did that with an F-4 Phantom model using bits of racer's tape and it worked out well.

Those Airfix Lightnings seem to sell for a good price if you don't get around to building them.  They've been out of production for quite a while.  They seem to be worth $40-50 or more over here.
