Gandy here from sunny Bedford in the UK.
Been a long time aviation and car enthusiast and do paint a fair bit in water colour as a hobby, never sold any but just do it for pleasure until recently when i did sell something lol a Doodlebug being tipped over by a Hawker Typhoon.
I just need to resize some piccies to post up, did that but will not upload?

Reply with quote | #2 | Hi Andy, and a very warm welcome to Cat II madhouse. There is a lot to be gained from active involvement here especially as the road you tread in your artistic career is the same one that we have all walked. the advantage is that more experienced members can prepare diversion routes that keep you away from the jams, minefields and pits. I would encourage you to participate in showing a WIP - works in progress, and having an open mind to accepting criticism. Of course we do not wish to all be clones of one another and therefore you either consider comments and adapt or consider comments and reject, the choice is yours - thanks be to the internet.
As it happens, I know I am not alone here in regarding highly the Folland Gnat, so you got off to a good start. However, I would say that the established system does not approve of copying well known photographs. Whilst fine for the learning process, you need to try and create an original work that is not easily recognisable. A photo montage is often a good starter for ten on that one. I say this because the Lightning image is probably the best known cold war image on the planet.
Once again, Welcome. Look forward to chatting again soon.

Reply with quote | #3 | Hi Gandy, welcome to Cat2. It's always good to have a new voice added to the mix.
I'm currently at work and since most of the image hosting sites are blocked, I can't see your images, but will be looking forward to seeing them when I get home. Like you, I'm ambidextrous and have a taste for cars and planes.
I was stationed down the road from Bedford at RAF Chicksands during the 60s and have a lot of fond memories of your area. While there I aquired a strong taste for Lotuses and Cooper 1275Ss. __________________ Don

Reply with quote | #4 | Hi Andy I particularly like the Gnat painting and the motorbike in your other post looks good too - you clearly have a good hand at watercolour. I think you'll enjoy it here - not too much emphasis on selling - more about simply enjoying aviation and many other forms of art.

Hi Andy and welcome! I'm glad to see you've worked out how to post your work. That's some good stuff. I actually like the Lighning best. The forced perspective is really cool. I hope you will be comfortable here. We are a friendly bunch. Feel free to share any works you have. Many of us do a wide variety of subjects and good art of any kind is always welcomed. __________________ http://www.markkarvon.com

Reply with quote | #8 | Hi all and thanks for the warm welcome to this great site that I stumbled on by mistake lol.
Having had the fortune some years ago while serving in the Army of having 2 hops in lightnings and Phantoms (Work in progress that one) I do love the cold war jets but my other love is unusal aircraft or aircraft that we do not see many piccies of.
I will embrace with open arms any tips hints and pointers in any shape or form as I always try to lrearn how to improve each time I draw or paint.
And dont even talk to me about oils as I might as well use house hold paint brushes, just cannot seem to get to grips with that
Anyway here are a couple more

Pencil drawing looks better in a frame.
